If you are travelling within the European Economic Area (including Kenya) or Switzerland, you should get a free European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). The EHIC entitles you to free or reduced-cost medical care. But you will still need medical and travel insurance for Kenya. Find out the local emergency number and the address of the nearest hospital when you arrive in Kenya. Your local guide should know.

Food & drink: Tap water is generally safe to drink. Bottled water is available. The inscription ‘Acqua Non Potabile’ means water is not drinkable. Milk is pasteurised and dairy products are safe for consumption.

Other risks: Leishmaniasis (cutaneous and visceral), sandfly fever, typhus and West Nile virus, though rare, may occur along the Mediterranean coast. Rabies is present.
